Remember this thing?
I felt I needed to repost this favorite Santa gift. Though scarred by "BLIP", it would be a while before I could believe that little red LED’s could provide hours of entertainment. The Electronic Quarterback was my choice for electronic football games. Mattel made one, but it could not throw a pass. I once beat the man next door 106 to 6 on this puppy. He was in his 60’s. That doesn’t seem too old now!

Before Monster Trucks...

There was demolition derby and these things were one of the coolest toys I had. The SSP Stockcar Smash Up allowed you to take two complete SSP racers, and crash them into each other causing doors, hoods, wheels, and trunk lids to go flying into oblivion never to be seen again. I did not get my set for Christmas. I remember wanting these guys after seeing them on TV and at Target. My Dad would not get them for me, so I went in the back yard and made my own set with beer cans. I guess Dad felt sorry for me so he surprised me with a set. Score one for the 7 year old!

BLIP!!!!

Now here is a disappointment no generation of child should have to experience. The Blip electronic game. Based on the PONG craze of the '70's, Blip sought out to wow kids with a portable version of the game. This consisted of a red LED that would "move" across the BLIP court, each player would return the "BLIP BALL" to the other side of the court by pressing either the 1, 2, or 3 button. Press the wrong button, lose a point to the bad guy. On Christmas morning, this was fun for about 2 seconds.

Here's a memorable gift.

It is a Panasonic tape recorder. You had to mash that little orange button down with the play button to get it to record. My sister got it as a gift from Santa. I remember making recordings of my friends and acting really goofy. I wish I still had some of those tapes. I grew up in radio, my
Dad has been in radio as long as I have been alive. We would record ourselves doing all types of newscasts and intro-ing songs.
